Corporate Mentality documents the emergence of recent practices within a cultural sphere occupied by both business and art. Based on an archive (1995-2001) maintained by Aleksandra Mir, it presents a diverse spectrum of artists who take on business as site, as material, and as subject of their work. Calling for a reassessment of the function of art in late-capitalist society, Corporate Mentality focuses on the complex and ambiguous ways artistic production inhabits corporate processes, abandoning the autonomy of the artwork, in order to elaborate resistant approaches to a world increasingly determined by commercial strategies and market concerns.

How to Be a Joshua Tree is a fanzine that came out of the short Home Road Movie with the same name. Home Road Movies is simply the accumulation of short videos I am shooting on my travels. They are brief studies of moving phenomena and also documentation of smaller impromptu performances. The project started in January 2002, on my first visit ever to California, with a series of shorts (1-3 minutes) shot out in Joshua Tree. SEE the movie. READ an interview about it.

This publication was put together during a brief 5-day residency (March 21-26, 2004) at communications bureau IB&CO, Ikast—a Danish town of 23.000 inhabitants. The project is part of the art biennial Socle du Monde which fosters a tradition of artists collaborating with local industries, initiated by the shirt manufacturer Aage Damgaard who invited Piero Manzoni to work there in the 1950s. The 2004 edition of this show is curated by Jacob Fabricius. The photographs and stories herein were gathered through the local historical archives of Ikast, the press archives of Ikast newspaper, Herning Art Museum photo archive, and the staff at IB&CO and by contributions from people whom answered my local ad Danes in the Sun.

This pamphlet was produced as my catalogue for the Socle du Monde Biennial in Herning 2004, as a companion to Danes in the Sun, the newspaper produced for this show. Finding Photographs is a poetic manifesto / descriptive workbook on my general approach to found photography. Using sample photographs from previous projects and exhibitions, I discuss the logistics behind my gathering and organizational methods, arguing for the circulation of culture and claiming the 'spaces between photographs' to be my work. Che and Concorde combines two stunning visuals, once energetic and powerful but now obsolete. One is a symbol of revolution, the other of technological advancement and aesthetic perfection. The combined lost potency of both, a sign of my times. The new composite image is at once an expression of political desilusion and nostalgia for more idealistic times. By Aleksandra Mir, 2005

Edited, Published and Design by Aleksandra Mir, NYC, 2005

My log and sketchbook from the journey to Antarctica in 2005 on Pierre Huyghe initial invitation. I spent in total 7 weeks on board Tara 5 as we sailed from Ushuaia to Antarctica and back, stayed as the boat made its way through Patagonia and eventually landed in Buenos Aires. The drawings depict the mundane life on board and show seasons changing as the landscape goes from slick icebergs to lush vegetation. Originally produced as a Xerox copy publication for all 17 members of the expedition, it was included in the collection of the Explorers Club in Manhattan in January 2007, the ceremony of which there is also now a certificate in the back.

Original Print Edition: 5,000

Published on the occasion of Hidden City, a festival of performances and exhibitions taking place at historic venues throughout Philadelphia, May 2009. The project utilized the archives of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Hundreds of articles on the subject of 'Women" were sourced directly from and in co-operation with the paper. They were then cut up and re-assembled in an condensed mix of seemingly arbitrary design. The creation of a mash-up of content - adverts and editorial - reveals the often contradictory messages that the reader picks up from the paper as a whole and is then left to sort out any confusion for him or herself. The original intention and contract stipulated that the layouts were to be inserted directly back into the newspaper, one page at a time. Due to production constraints (at the last minute), it was the commissioner's decision to then print all 8 pages as a separate publication to be distributed in the lobby of the Inquirer's office headquarters. This version of the work was subsequently censored and dismantled by some offended employees. Subsequently, a third version was then exhibited and framed behind glass on the commissioner's initiative and design. At this point, I felt my original idea had been compromised to such an extent that I walked away from the whole debacle.
